G-funk, short for gangsta funk, is a subgenre of hip-hop that developed in California in the late 1980s. The style, which is influenced by the psychedelic funk of artists like Parliament and Funkadelic, is defined by synthesized melodies, slow to mid-tempo grooves, and funky bass lines. Notable artists from the genre include Warren G, Nate Dogg, and Kurupt. Though most g-funk comes from the West Coast, artists like OutKast and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony have also released g-funk tracks.
