'80s new wave
Depeche Mode

New wave is an umbrella term for pop-orientated styles of music from the ’70s and ’80s that emerged after punk rock. Though influenced by punk’s do-it-yourself philosophy, new wave was less abrasive. The genre is noted for its use of electronic instruments, notably synthesizers, and distinct fashion.

Popular new wave hits include The Cure’s “Friday I’m in Love,” New Order’s “Blue Monday,” and Depeche Mode’s “I Just Can’t Get Enough.”
