90s R&B
SWV

’90s R&B is an era of contemporary R&B that, as its name suggests, represents a variety of R&B styles from the 1990s. By the mid-’80s, R&B had been influenced by hip-hop, and hybrid genres like new jack swing had emerged. The crossover continued into the ’90s with new styles of R&B emerging such as hip-hop soul and neo soul.

The decade saw timeless hits R&B that continue to receive regular play by DJs, including anthems like Mark Morrison‘s “Return of the Mack,” Lauryn Hill‘s “Doo Wop (That Thing),” TLC‘s “No Scrubs,” Blackstreet‘s “No Diggity,” among many others.
