Lovers rock is a style of reggae noted for its romantic sound and lyrical content. Developed in the UK during the 1970s, lovers rock offered an apolitical alternative to the more conscious Rastafarianism sound of roots reggae. The style has been particularly popular with women and has seen a considerable amount of female stars compared to other reggae styles.
