Developed in the early ’90s, the genre gained global popularity two decades later as part of the EDM wave. It is characterized by build-ups, melodic vocal breakdowns, and climactic drops. Notable artists in the genre include Calvin Harris, Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, Kaskade, and deadmau5.
