5 Items Every DJ Should Carry

You can never be too prepared when it comes to DJing in public. Veteran DJs are all too familiar with the experience of showing up to a gig and realizing that they forgot something important. Other items are simply good to have in order to protect yourself and extend your career.

Here’s a list of five items that every DJ should carry. Hopefully, it will help you in your journey.

1. Earplugs
Don’t wait until it’s too late. Hearing damage is the number one health risk faced by career DJs. Your hearing will continue to degrade over time unless you protect yourself. Invest in quality earplugs and wear them at your gigs!

2. Spare USB cable
You can never have too many of these. It’s difficult to trust the USB cables at most clubs, and you’re in big trouble if you forget this at a private gig. As the primary connection between your laptop and DJ hardware, this item is of the utmost importance. Keep at least one spare in your bag at all times.

3. Spare headphones
There’s nothing worse than showing up to your gig and realizing that you left your headphones at home. Keep a spare set in your bag along with an extra 1/4 to 3.5mm adapter, so you’re always covered.

4. Mobile Hotspot
In today’s era of DJing, Wi-Fi connectivity comes in super handy. While Beatsource is the only streaming service for DJs that offers an offline mode, it’s smart to carry a mobile hotspot in case you need to connect in a pinch.

5. Microphone
Not all DJs get on the mic, but it’s important to have the option in case you need to make an announcement or provide it for a client. Invest in a decent wired microphone and keep it in your DJ bag just in case.
